Rutherglen Rotary Club 2009]/10 Community Service AwardsThe Rotary Club of Rutherglen has announced the winners of its annual vocational awards at their meeting this week. Ian Morris, the Vocational Service Director said “As usual, it has been a challenging task to identify the winners of our two vocational awards”.Ian outlined the two awards. The Community Service Award, which is awarded to a person who works in face to face contact with the community and with visitors to the town. Essentially this award goes to a staff member of a business that deals with the general public and gives them a really good feeling about Rutherglen. The second award is the Pride of Workmanship Award, this award goes to a person working more behind the scenes. It is someone who ensures their skills are honed up so they are able to undertake their job with a maximum of efficiency. The Community Service Award went to Gordon Fisher, Sales Manager at McNamara’s Country Store. In making the nomination Tim McNamara said “I realised in thinking about this we probably don’t give good staff the recognition they deserve.” He added that Gordon provided exceptional service to all customers and stepped readily into the overall management of the business whenever Tim and Wendy were away. It was also noted that Gordon also did quite a lot of community work through CFA, Rutherglen Agricultural Society and in the Morris’s fund raising dinner.Chris Bursill who works at the Rutherglen Transaction Centre was awarded the Pride of Workmanship Award. In supporting her nomination of Chris, Robin Sullivan said that as a client of the centre she knew that Chris had two jobs, as a librarian and also the manager of the centre. “I am always amazed at the initiatives she shows and the things happening at the centre. She is extremely competent and I think she thoroughly deserves this award”. These awards have a strong history having been made ever since the Rutherglen Rotary Club was chartered in 1988.Gordon Fisher admires the trophy for the Community Service Award, a Welsh Miners Lamb, with Rotary President Neil TempletonChris Bursill is congratulated by Neil Templeton after being awarded the Pride of Workmanship Award
